The Intelligent Innovation and Cognition Lab (IICL-Lab) has successfully held a Book Chapter Writing Workshop designed to guide students and early-career researchers through the process of planning, drafting, and polishing high-quality book chapters for academic publications. The workshop focused on helping participants understand the distinctive features of book chapters compared with journal articles and conference papers, while offering practical strategies for developing a coherent and impactful contribution.Â
The session covered key aspects of the chapter-writing process, including selecting a suitable topic, aligning with the theme of an edited volume, structuring the argument, and integrating related work effectively. Yuan also introduced best practices for writing introductions and conclusions, presenting theoretical frameworks and methodologies, and maintaining a clear narrative flow across sections.
The workshop allowed authors to connect the guidance to their own ongoing or planned book chapter projects. By organising this Book Chapter Writing Workshop, IICL-Lab continues to reinforce its commitment to nurturing the next generation of researchers—not only by supporting their technical work, but also by helping them build the academic communication skills needed to share their ideas effectively with the wider scholarly community.
